![]() Latest salary trendsEach year we conduct a salary survey to identify trends in the profession. While the results for 2006 are generally consistent with previous years, there have been some interesting changes. In previous years, contractors generally earned more than permanent employees. In 2006, permanent employees started to close the gap with most permanent employees earning a similar amount to the majority of contractors. For the first time, there are indications of a difference in rates according to industry. The majority (53%) of those earning less than $60,000 were in the defence industry and 55% of those earning more than $90,000 worked in financial services. Lower earnings tend to be related to the number of hours worked. Of those earning less than $60,000, 17% reported working part-time (24 hours or less per week) and 55% worked for 9 or fewer months.
