Language and Readability

In this unit we look at language and consider what makes a piece of writing easier for the reader to understand. Readability is a measure of this. You will learn techniques to increase the readability of your writing, in particular how to write shorter, clearer sentences.

• improving readability by
  • removing redundancies
  • using shorter words and phrases
  • removing jargon and clichés
• checking the readability
  • setting up MS Word to show the readability statistics
  • understanding what the readability score tells us.
